It was first introduced in 1932 through the dedication of Dr. Austin W. Bender of Buffalo, New York. In 1921, Dr. Bender worked closely with patients suffering from arthritis and athletic injuries. His patients expressed a need fo a pain-relieving emollient superior to any product available on the market. After a decade of development, Dr. Bender perfected his formula for pain relief. For the next 20 years, the resulting product, Octogen ointment, was available only by prescription. The FDA later authorized the use of over-the-counter sales. Nationwide Distribution
