Old Orchard School

The primary objectives and purposes of the Old Orchard Service League (OOSL) shall be to help provide students at Old Orchard School with means for educational, technological, and charitable assistance, to further their enrichment opportunities. In order to make these provisions, the OOSL has initiated a process for requesting funds. A "Grant Request Form" may be obtained from any member of the OOSL or downloaded from the web site. This form should be filled with as much detail as possible to support the request for funding. The OOSL Board of Directors will review these requests and discuss them at the monthly meetings. To ensure that grant requests are reviewed at the monthly meetings (first Wednesday of each month) the requests should be submitted as much in advance of that as possible. Available funds will be dispersed based on a determination of funds available and the relevance to the stated objectives of the Service League. In other words, funding will be provided for items which enhance the educational environment of the school and classrooms, and not for items which are used for improving or repairing facilities without an educational enrichment purpose. Final funding decisions will be made after discussion and agreement between OOSL representatives and OOS administration. If a grant request is not deemed as being within the charter of the OOSL, and the requester does not agree, additional information should be presented to both the OOS administration and the OOSL Board of Directors to clarify and justify the need. As a safeguard, the OOSL fund-raising account shall not be depleted by grant fulfillment to an amount less than $15,000. Fund raising activities, which have associated expenses, may receive advance funds from the OOSL account. Requests should be made in writing, with a description of expected expenses and amounts. The OOSL will approve these requests prior to money being granted. Fund raising activities should be reviewed by the OOSL prior to announcements and/or collection of funds. The OOSL must approve these activities and agree to the role of the OOSL in these activities. Fund raising activities for specific grades should be handled by the students in that grade. We recommend that a parent volunteer assist the students in the activities, including collection of funds and the making of payments. The OOSL may be consulted for advice on fund raising for specific grades. This is the proper function for the OOSL - to raise funds, for the benefit of the entire school, but not to focus on only one class.
