OpenFiber

OpenFiber is a last mile open access fiber optic infrastructure solution. Traditionally, what is known as the "last mile" problem has been the lack of fiber optic infrastructure all the way to the end user. Due this lack of infrastructure, providers have been forced to use the existing antiquated copper infrastructure, which radically limits service speed and quality. At OpenFiber, we believe that everyone in the community should have ready access to next generation telecommunication infrastructure for the purpose of fostering a more communicative, efficient, and productive society. To accomplish this, OpenFiber installs, and operates, a last mile open access fiber optic network in the San Francisco Bay Area. "Last mile" means fiber to the end user, whether it is the home, or business; "Open access" means that anybody, whether they are carriers, service providers, businesses, or individuals, can use the OpenFiber network to provide service to clients, or for their own use. In this way, monopolies are eliminated, and the community is empowered by the luxury of being able to choose the best services at the best price in a free market. Additionally, there is no more need for multiple companies to install last mile infrastructure into buildings or localized areas, as all are able to use the OpenFiber network. This eliminates excessive wiring to a property's minimum point of entry (MPOE). It also reduces the amount of personnel that need have access to a property, which enhances a property's security. The result of OpenFiber is simple: Anywhere the OpenFiber network reaches, end users can be immediately serviced by any provider that wishes to participate. As such, the community is well served having the gift of choice, and next generation telecommunication services available to everyone. OpenFiber solves the "last mile" problem! We build the last mile infrastructure that incumbent providers are either not willing to build, or not willing to equitably share, and any entity that has need for the use of this infrastructure can make use of it.
