Office of Public Prosecutions
A new website by the Office of Public Prosecutions (OPP) aims to improve the community's understanding of criminal prosecutions in Victoria. The website details the role of the Director of Public Prosecutions, the OPP and the Crown Prosecutors' Chambers and how they work together in the public interest to prosecute the State's most serious criminals. There are also sections with detailed information for victims of crime and those seeking a career in criminal prosecutions. Solicitor for Public Prosecutions Craig Hyland said the website showed the breadth of work the OPP is involved in - on top of the demands of daily prosecutions in Victorian courts. "We are also involved in the confiscation of criminal assets, contribute our expertise to legislative reforms, and have dedicated social workers who support victims and witnesses throughout the prosecution process." Mr Hyland said the OPP was a vibrant criminal legal practice that attracted a strong calibre of candidates to advertised positions, and the website had an expanded Careers section with useful information and tips for potential job candidates.
