Parents

Originally, Parents of Tots was founded in Wakefield but the group soon found value in including surrounding towns. More activities, more parks, more outings but perhaps most importantly, more people to grow the group and diversify our membership. Through the years, Parents of Tots, or PoT, has grown and flourished due to volunteer involvement. Parents bring their unique talents to the planning of each event, outing, and project. There is a flexible structure in place that has both stood the test of time and grown through the years. PoT communications started as a simple calendar, then became a few page mailing, eventually growing into a monthly 20+ page newsletter. Now it's an e-Newsletter, and articles have included all kinds of advice including nutrition, cooking, decorating, crafts, home organization, stress management, developmental guidelines, financial planning, and even limericks to evoke a smile. Our organization's birthday is in September and we typically celebrate with a kickoff event. It's a chance for members who may not have seen each other as often during the summer months to reconnect, as well as an opportunity to introduce new friends to the group. This is followed in October by our trick or treating Halloween party. Moms nights out, book club, playgroups, trips to area museums, play spaces, and parks, and visits to assisted living facilities all add options to the Parents of Tots' experience. Our holiday party, winter blues' bouncy party, and spring fling are favorite annual events. Tot Time, a monthly play date, developed as an idea to help keep members connected. A theme is chosen, and the room decorated--crafts and stories occupy the children, and a fun snack completes the hour. Parent volunteers make this happen and it is funded by our membership fee. Tot Time started in 2007 and continues to be a popular activity for children and parents alike. Monthly meetings, hosted in members' homes, allow the group a chance to communicate and plan.
