Parmiter's School

Parmiter's School

Parmiter's School was founded in 1681 in Bethnal Green, London, based on the will of Thomas Parmiter, a silk merchant. In 1977 the school moved to Hertfordshire and in the following year Mr Waters, the then Headmaster, set up a small committee of parents with the intention of organising social and fund raising events to help the school. This Parent's Committee proved very successful and established a number of regular events, such as the Cheese & Wine evening for parents of new intake which has been running annually now since 1978 and is run for the new Year 7 parents. In 1983 with the school now having its full complement of forms, the Headmaster and the Parents' Committee agreed that the time had arrived when a full association of parents should be established. The intention being that the proposed association should continue along the same lines established by the Parents' Committee, which was social and financial and included providing refreshments at school functions. The Headmaster valued the family atmosphere at Parmiter's and hoped that parents would wish to see an association established in that same spirit. On 8th November 1983 the inaugural General Meeting of the Parmiter's School Association, as it was initially called, was held and was attended by 77 parents and members of staff. The general rules and guidelines agreed upon are not too dissimilar to our current constitution.
