Punjab Agricultural University

Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) was established in 1962 at Ludhiana (Punjab) with the aim to provide teaching, research and extension education services in agriculture and related fields. These activities of PAU were set up on the pattern of land grant universities of the United States, with initial collaboration with the Ohio State University. A significant number of scientists and teachers of PAU obtained their Ph.D. degrees from the various universities in the United States. Initially, there were three campuses of PAU at Ludhiana, Hisar and Palampur. With the reorganization of Punjab in 1966, the Hisar campus was changed into Haryana Agricultural University. Palampur campus became Himachal Pradesh Agricultural University in 1970. Until recently, PAU had five constituent colleges at Ludhiana viz., College of Agriculture, College of Agricultural Engineering, College of Veterinary Sciences, College of Basic Sciences & Humanities and College of Home Science. College of Veterinary Sciences has now been separated from PAU and made Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana . PAU attracts students from all over the world. For the last several decades, PAU has been one of the top ranking agricultural universities in Asia. Green revolution in Punjab has been possible only because of the contributions of PAU. This revolution has helped India to become self sufficient in food production. PAU also brought revolutions in milk production, poultry industry, fish culture, etc. A large number of PAU alumni are holding senior scientific positions in the public and private sectors of India, United States, Canada and other countries. PAU alumni are well known for their international contributions through very famous organizations such as the World Bank, FAO, IRRI, IFDC and the United Nations. Moreover, many PAU alumni have successfully established their businesses in North America, Europe and Australia. We are proud to be alumni of the Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana.
