Paya Communication Industries
Paya Communication Industries (PCI) was founded in 1980 by a trio of young engineers seeking to design and manufacture electronic PABX systems. Since then the company has aggressively pursued its campaigns of growth. PCI started to manufacture in 1981. From 1981 to 1988, the company solidified its well known brand CARIN. Various PABX models, branded under the name CARIN, were introduced to market and successfully grabbed the attention. These small capacity PABXes, served various small and medium sized businesses with 4 to 96 extensions and 2 to 12 trunks. Eight years of successful presence in PABX market was followed by a major step forward. In 1989, CARIN-500 was introduced. It was an innovative product enjoying stored program control (SPC) technology with a capacity to serve up to 432 extensions. CARIN-500 could be equipped with 8 to 32 trunks. Its technical capabilities far exceeded customer needs. CARIN-500 was a total success. In 1990, PCI started its manufacturing plant of 6'000 square meters in the eastern industrial zone of Tehran to answer the growing market demand. Until 1991, PCI used its experience in CARIN-500 product to renovate its whole PABX product lines to take advantage of the established stored program control technology. The breakthrough came in 1992. PCI launched its modern new product line. In this year, CARIN-2000 was introduced to market. CARIN-2000 benefited a fully digital design based on TDM/PCM technology. CARIN-2000 proved to be what it was promised to be. Along with CARIN-2000's introduction, PCI started its aggressive campaign to become a key player in public telecommunication sector. In the same year by winning a large share of PTT's international tender, PCI powerfully continued its way of success. In less than two years, PCI integrated tens of CARIN-2000 exchanges in telecommunication network and served 300'000 subscribers. During this period, CARIN-2000 was installed in 150 towns and cities around the country including major cities like Tehran, Isfahan, Tabriz, Kermanshah, Zahedan, and Abadan. Until 1995, PCI established its strong brand image in the market but never missed any opportunity to innovate. In this year congruent with its growth strategy, PCI introduced CARIN-LX1, a high capacity exchange. CARIN-LX1 can serve up to 50'0000 subscribers with which PCI targeted high capacity exchange market. In 1995, PTT held a one million line international tender. PCI won a large share of that tender to supply about 300'000 ports. In the next year, PCI once again contracted to supply 400'000 ports to PTT. In 1997, PCI extended its digital exchange product line with the introduction of CARIN-MX1. CARIN-MX1 can serve up to 6720 subscribers and was targeted for medium sized telecommunication centers. CARIN-MX1 was introduced to fill the gap between low and high capacity CARIN exchanges. During 1998 and 1999, PCI introduced various product lines including switching test equipments, digital access network equipments, pair-gain systems, and transmission systems. Among them, CARIN-UPG and CARIN-HDSL grabbed much attention very soon and both of them were successful. At the turn of the millennium, PCI continued its way of success by expanding its market share. With an eye toward international market, PCI successfully penetrated some foreign markets. The company, alongside its manufacturing operations, has mobilized its resources to become one of the key players in GSM and wireless industry.
