Perkins Township
Since 1953 Perkins Township has operated a fire department. The department initially operated with a staff of trained volunteers, but it has grown with the township. Today the fire department delivers fire, emergency medical, fire prevention, and technical rescue services with a staff of 24 full-time and 24 part-time employees to the 13,000 residents and thousands of visitors that work, shop, and stay in the township annually. The department operates 3 ALS ambulances, 3 engines, 1 ladder, and a brush unit out of fire stations on Campbell Street and Milan Road. The Perkins Township Fire Department responds to approximately 3,100 calls for assistance annually. All personnel are cross-trained in fire and emergency medical services. Most of the full-time firefighters are paramedics and rescue technicians. Several of the firefighters are certified fire safety inspectors who are responsible for inspecting more than 833 commercial and industrial buildings throughout the township.
