Piero's Corner is a family-owned restaurant. We hail from Cinque terre in the Italian Riviera. Our food is authentic and our laughter is contagious. Stop by and see what the fuss is all about! OUR CHEF: Executive Chef Gian Piero Mazzi's culinary career began in La Spezia, a small city in the Liguria Region of Italy. Although his parents wanted him to become a lawyer or doctor, his Mother's passion for food and good eating led him to school in Florence. After three years at the culinary institute of Giuseppe Casini, he visited Paris for an internship at Chez des Amis where he learned "how to live and survive in a kitchen". At the age of 22, he was managing the entire brigade "with harmony and fitness, the audience will judge the results ..." In search of further challenges, he traveled to the United States where he worked with Chefs Roberto Donna and Todd Grey at Galileo and assisted Dante Boccuzzi with the grand opening of the Silks Mandarin in San Francisco. Subsequently, Chef Mazzi served as the Executive Chef at Morrison House, a highly acclaimed four-star restaurant in Arlington Virginia. Chef Mazzi extended a "by invitation only" opportunity to showcase his cuisine at New York's James Beard House in February, 2002. Restaurant owner Charlie Trotter acclaims that "The James Beard House is the best forum I know where chefs, both young and old, both well-known and not so well-known, can test their imagination and technical prowess. Without this institution, there would be a great void on the American culinary scene. As usual, Chef Mazzi's showing was impressive and received many accolades by this impressive showing of some of the top talent on the national culinary scene. With Chef Mazzi's success in the culinary world, it was only natural to assume he would strike out on his own to create something special. Piero's Corner Ristorante Italiano is extremely pleased that Chef Mazzi has joined with us to create Piero's Corner. Chef Mazzi is looking forward to creating an environment that returns him to the family-like atmosphere he enjoyed in his youth. Chef Mazzi resides in Clifton, Virginia with his wife Carmela and their sons Nicolas and Luca.
