The Reading Clinic

Since that time it has grown from providing specialised tutoring based in the founder's home to an array of services designed to meet the needs of individuals with specific learning disabilities in a purpose-built facility on Serpentine Road, Pembroke, which opened in 1991. Our work has included structured, multisensory, phonetic instruction for reading and spelling (approximately 80 students per year), psychoeducational/neurodevelopmental assessments, consultation with family members, consultations/workshops for educators. In 2009-2010, we fully adopted the ICAN (Individualised Cognitive Approach to Numeracy) Math Programme. This programme extends the power of math to students who learn differently. Our most recent project is the I-PLAY programme which provides early screening and play-based phonological activities to children in four public preschools. The Reading Clinic and its programmes are accredited by the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators and the International Dyslexia Association.
