REFIT

REFIT® is a fitness program that is designed to be used as fitness ministry, fitness outreach or simply fitness with purpose. REFIT® is different from other dance-fitness programs because of the values-focused approach to the class. While some dance-fitness classes may have an "anything goes" philosophy or focus solely on external results, REFIT has a different fitness intention in mind. Reaching physical goals is certainly a good by-product of fitness, but REFIT purposes to also develop stronger internal results within each individual such as: attitude, confidence, integrity, passion, self-worth and humility. REFIT has a unique approach to the music and moves that are used within our fitness classes. Participants can expect to see and hear moves and music that reflect the REFIT core values, as well as the personalized values of each REFIT Instructor. WHERE CAN I ATTEND A LIVE CLASS? The REFIT team offers LIVE REFIT events across the US throughout the year. You can check out our "live events" page to see our schedule. If we're within 4 hours of your city, you should definitely make a road trip to come see us! If you're looking for a REFIT class offered on a weekly basis in your area, please check out our "find a class" page to see a list of instructors who teach REFIT near you. Don't see a REFIT class close by? Maybe you should consider a REFIT Facilitator or Instructor training! WHAT IF I CAN'T DANCE? We typically hear the same excuse, "I can't dance! and time after time we prove these statements wrong! REFIT is not about perfection, but participation. If you have the desire to workout, dance and have fun…you are more than capable of succeeding in a REFIT class. Basic rhythm is helpful and if you can tap your foot to the beat of a song, you've got the skills to join us. DO YOU HAVE A BEGINNERS CLASS? We do not, and the reason for this is because REFIT classes are designed to accommodate all fitness levels, ages and sizes! We love the diverse demographic seen in our classes. We encourage personal modification so that individual participants can reach personalized fitness goals. We periodically take time in our classes to demonstrate high and low modifications so that participants can feel successful. ARE YOU A FAITH-BASED FITNESS PROGRAM? Yes…and no. We like to use the term "value focused" or "faith infused". We desire to see people live out their values, and this includes REFIT® Instructors and classes. We equip instructors to determine their personal class purpose. For some this will be a fitness ministry....for others a fitness outreach...and finally, for some it will be a positive fitness experience. We train from a "fitness-outreach" perspective. What this means is that our classes are designed to reach out to different cultures, backgrounds and beliefs, and welcome them into our classes and lives. We strongly feel that way to accomplish this goal is to create a neutral space for people who are lost, looking or on the journey to discovering faith. The overall heart of REFIT is to empower instructors to create a REFIT class that reflects their values, faith, and goals. DO YOU USE ONLY CHRISTIAN MUSIC? No, we don't and here's why: As mentioned above, REFIT has a very diverse demographic. Some instructors and/or participants are looking for all faith-based music, others are simply looking for cleaner, "value neutral" music. We provide both. It is our desire to see faith and culture blended together in a way that bridges people from varying beliefs and value systems. Because our sincere desire is to provide an atmosphere that encourages understanding and diversity, you will see a diverse playlist of songs that reflects the demographic of our class. We also seek to bridge differences and find ways to unify instead of divide. Creating a welcoming atmosphere for a varying demographic includes using music and moves that are familiar to those who attend. Bridging culture and faith requires the acknowledgement that not all secular music is "bad", and we look for ways to represent music that is culturally relevant, while maintaining a counter-culture perspective. ARE ALL YOUR SONGS APPROPRIATE TO USE IN MY CLASS? Yes! NO! Maybe? The word "appropriate" is a very subjective term, and we feel that each individual should determine the appropriateness of songs for their classes. REFIT isn't the "holy spirit" of music selection, and so we strongly encourage individuals to make this determination for themselves. We provide both value-neutral and value-infused music and allow instructors to customize their own playlists according to the needs of their demographic. Are we trying to ride the fence? Absolutely not. We're simply encouraging individual thought in regard to music selection providing resources for either side of that fence. HOW CAN I GET A LIVE REFIT CLASS OR TRAINING IN MY AREA? Hosting a training in your area is really simple! Simply email us at [email protected] and we'll get the ball rolling! HOW DO I LOCATE A REFIT CLASS IN MY AREA? REFIT is a growing community, and we are excited about the small but growing number of instructors who are joining our team. This means that while there might not be a class in your particular city….there may be one soon. If you're eager to make that happen sooner than later, consider becoming a REFIT Instructor or facilitator! To see a list of all our current REFIT® instructors, please check out our "Instructor" page CAN I CHARGE FOR MY CLASSES? If you have completed the full-day REFIT Instructor Program, you are absolutely allowed to charge for your classes! Please note Facilitators are not allowed to charge for classes. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE FACILITATOR AND INSTRUCTOR TRAINING? The half-day Facilitator Trainingfocuses on the values and vision of REFIT and will teach Facilitators how to build community and create connections through fitness. As a facilitator you will lead the class by using the REFIT DVD (provided on training day). Facilitators do not select the music or create their own choreography, which is why this level of training is perfect for beginners, or someone without any previous experience. Facilitators simply need to be people who desire to see fitness centered on relationships and healthy, realistic goals. The Instructor Training is a full day, live training. Thefull-day Instructor Training will equip you with the practical tools needed to make solid music selections, create unique choreography, and find your individual style to independently lead your own REFIT class. There is an optional membership available after certification that will give instructors access to an abundance of resources, as well as a detailed instructor class listing on the new REFIT website. CAN I USE YOUR DVDS IN MY CHURCH/WORKPLACE/SCHOOL? The REFIT DVD that is sold through our online store is for personal use only. You do have permission to use the DVD in your home…and grabbing a group of friends to join you in on the fun it totally okay! Use of the DVD in a public setting such as schools, churches, or workplace is considered public use and requires a REFIT Facilitator or Instructor certification. Any promotion or marketing of a REFIT® Class is strictly prohibited without a REFIT certification. DO I NEED ADDITIONAL TRAININGS OR CERTIFICATIONS TO TEACH REFIT?No. Our live instructor training is the only training required to be a REFIT instructor. We do, however, strongly suggest a fitness certification such as AFAA or ACE as well as a CPR certification
