Indoor air quality is one area that you can take steps towards improving. Throughout the past few years, a growing body of scientific evidence has shown that the air within homes and other buildings is up to 5 times more polluted than the air outside. Other research shows that people spend approximately 90 percent of their time indoors . Thus, for many people, the risks to health may be greater due to exposure to air pollution indoors than outdoors. I n addition, people who are exposed to indoor air pollutants for the longest periods of time are those most susceptible to the negative impact of indoor air pollution to their health. Those susceptible include small children, the elderly, and the chronically ill, especially those suffering from respiratory or cardiovascular disease. Yet many people do not have the knowledge to properly mitigate these issues. Most of you may know someone who is struggling with asthma, severe allergies or major headaches when they are inside.
