Region VII Area Agency on Aging

Region VII Area Agency on Aging

Region VII Area Agency on Aging is one of 600 area agencies created by an amendment to the the Older Americans Act of 1965 to manage the federal and state funds earmarked for services to older adults. Nutrition continues to be the priority with about half of the current funding spent on programs including home-delivered meals and congregate dining sites. Today's Area Agency On Aging is a dynamic organization that continues to contract and monitor service providers throughout the region who in turn assure that the most vulnerable older adults, disabled persons, and family caregivers receive supports and services necessary for healthy aging. In addition, the agency identifies trends in aging and seeks out the funding and programs to meet those needs. Examples of new programs include evidence-based workshops for older adults and caregivers designed to empower them to take control of their situation. Programs like Creating Confident Caregivers for people caring for family suffering from dementia, PATH or Personal Action Towards Health for management of chronic conditions, and Matter of Balance an innovative way to reduce falls and injuries.
