Rhode Island Tutorial and Educational Services

RITES is a community resource for high-quality, personalized tutoring for students from Kindergarten to adult. We've grown and adapted to meet the needs of our immediate Rhode Island community and expanded our services well into southeastern Massachusetts. RITES began with two teachers, focusing on providing effective, multisensory reading instruction to elementary-age, dyslexic students. While we continue to specialize in this area, we have expanded to include over 20 certified and highly-qualified, experienced teachers using research-based approaches for students of all ages. We continue to build programs, such as our middle school and high school study and organizational skills programs, to address a range of learning profiles, such as ADHD and executive function deficits, and we've developed additional programs for our high school students that include individualized test preparation and high-school-specific subject tutoring. In addition to continuing the expansion of our tutoring services, RITES maintains the goal of being an educational resource for the community in multiple ways. We are committed to providing informative, useful workshops for parents, and effective professional development for teachers through our training programs. We also partner with other local organizations, such as The Hamilton School at Wheeler and the Dyslexia Center of New England, to provide crucial educational services to our community. We continue to strive for increased capacity in our summer programs - an essential component for students who are behind - and to secure sources of funding for summer financial aid, as well as the establishment of a sliding scale for our year-round tutoring services. Particularly as a nonprofit organization, we want to be able to serve all students who need our support, not just those who can afford it. As we look back at where we came from and look forward to where we're heading, one overarching theme prevails: RITES provides a very personal educational experience for all our students and their families. When we look at what the feedback has been, we see that we have had the positive impact we'd hoped for, which ripples through the family dynamic, making the journey a little easier, and that spreads to others through many channels, but most importantly, through word-of-mouth from these grateful families. We also have happy, gifted teachers who give so much to their students and enrich each other's professional experience. Additional evidence that we're doing the right thing and staying on the right course is the support we enjoy from other well-regarded learning differences professionals in our area. Our cross-referrals and our collaborative efforts really enhance what we're able to accomplish. We look forward to serving our community with even more innovative programs and services.
