Rockingham Acres, a family owned and operated plant nursery, has been proudly serving the Southern New Hampshire community since 1980. We are conveniently located to service Derry, Manchester, Londonderry, and Windham. We primarily focus on growing organic heirloom vegetables and herbs in our sunny greenhouses which total more than 5,000 square feet of richly scented earth. At Rockingham Acres Nursery we are committed to growing healthy and beautiful plants for vegetable gardening, flower gardening, and landscaping. Our expert growers work hard to provide an unparalleled selection of healthy, organic plants grown pesticide free to accentuate your garden, residence, or business. Heirloom Greenhouse Plants Versus Hybrid Breeds You might be wondering why we have chosen to grow heirloom breeds instead of many of the new hybrid breeds of vegetables? Put very simply - nature knows best! Heirloom vegetables are open pollinating allowing them to grow naturally with their adaptive traits and exceptional taste intact. Open pollination refers to pollination that occurs due to natural mechanisms such as insects, wind, and birds. Heirloom vegetables have proven performance both in the home garden and the market garden. Open pollination also allows us (and you) to save your seeds from year to year with the security of producing true type greenhouse plants. In contrast hybrid vegetables are bred to survive commercial agricultural processes including handling, packaging, shipping long distances, and chemical ripening. Additionally, research indicates that hybrids are significantly less nutritious than heirlooms. This may be due to the fact that they are engineered for higher yields. For these reasons we feel that avoiding hybrids benefits both consumers and the environment. Greenhouse Events and Workshops In addition to growing greenhouse plants, we also love to host events! Come join us in the greenhouses for garden clubs, nutritious food demonstrations, workshops, and parties. We host DIY projects and workshops for adults and children alike.
