Ruskim Seafoods is a family company that has grown into an international seafood organisation, which specialises in procuring seafood worldwide. We at Ruskim Seafoods pride ourselves in the fact that our suppliers are operating to the highest standards. We use regular suppliers giving them a good volume of business, in return they ensure that supply and quality of the goods supplied to ourselves is always maintained at the high standards we require. We regularly carry out our own supplier audits, visiting most of our suppliers at least twice a year. Our audits are based on risk assessment in food safety principles. We provide strict guidelines to our suppliers with regard to hygiene both in production, raw material procurement and transport. Our supplier audit will pay special attention to the raw material sources to ensure that banned substances are not implicated, such as antibiotics or growth hormones. We strive to ensure that our suppliers are complying with all E.U. directives that are relevant to their industry. In particular directive 91/492/E and 91/493/Ec that stipulates the health conditions for the production and placing on the market of fishery products. Before any order is cleared for shipment, it is checked for freshness, general quality, standard of freezing, size, colour, packaging and labelling. In addition all goods are checked in the laboratory for bacteriological content and antibiotics. We keep suppliers informed of any EU directives, which are relevant to their business as well as U.K. Food legislation and Import regulations. We provide guidance to our suppliers using the knowledge gained from procuring seafood from many countries. We note methods used by various packers and pass this knowledge to other packers to help them make improvements. We endeavour to source raw materials from ecologically sound and sustainable sources. We only use E.U. approved suppliers and the majority have also achieved most international accreditation standards.
