Despite limited resources due to a rural up-bringing and lack of information, the Executive Director, Mr Sam Mlambo, driven by an undying passion for constructive change brought the concept of the organization to life and has since been at the helm of the organizations success. SAFSDA is a registered non-profit, public benefit, non-governmental organization which since its inception in 1999, has made a positive contribution to the lives of a number of rural communities within the Province of KwaZulu Natal. The organization originally commenced servicing the local community as a Soup Kitchen by providing poverty stricken members of the community with a cooked meal on a daily basis. From initially functioning as a local organization, SAFSDA has transformed to one whose objectives and goals now encompass and address issues of skills development, empowerment, training, education and capacity building thus addressing socio-economic, health and human rights issues at grass roots level. SAFSDA further extends its services in the area rural development via its poverty alleviation programmes. SAFSDA is an organisation whose objectives and goals encompass and address issues of poverty, skills development and rural development via its poverty alleviation programmes. The aim is to resolve crises arising from poverty, various types of human rights abuse and unemployment. The idea of enhancing and strengthening relevant skills which in turn allow poor communities to derive an income via such initiatives is one of the key objectives of the organization's long term goals and vision.
