Saima: Società Aretina Industria Macchine Agricole was founded in Indicatore, Arezzo in 1979. The company produced agricultural machines that prepared the land for cultivation. It was a very difficult time for agriculture, especially in Italy. In 1981, engineer Paolo Moretti was hired as the managing director. After years of crisis in the agricultural sector, and in order to boost company development, two new sectors of productions were introduced. The first of these two sectors was for the production of paint booths for auto body shops and the second, for security booths for banks. The diversification of these sectors was the answer at the time, and the results were so satisfactory that in May 1987 the company transformed into three: SAIMA AGRICOLA S.R.L. for the agricultural tools, SAIMA MECCANICA S.p.A. for the paint booths, and SAIMA SICUREZZA for the bank security booths. At the end of 1987, Saima was sold, and the managing director, engineer Paolo Moretti bought it, along with other managers already present in the company. Among these managers were engineer Rinaldi, accountant Scoscini, Mr, Tiezzi, the Pippa Brothers of the United States and Raffaele Iovannone of Canada. Through this leveraging operation, the two most significant parts of the company, SAIMA MECCANICA and SAIMA SICUREZZA were purchased. SAIMA AGRICOLA was later acquired by its director. " If you want to analyze the evolution of SAIMA in a more detailed way, you have to take another step backward, to 1981, when I have to emphasize, we had started to study the paint booths and the security booths at the same time," affirms engineer Moretti, President of SAIMAgroup. "The machines needed to produce the paint booths and bank security booths were the same and we also made use of a local company that was developing a metal detector particularly for security doors. Our efforts and our objective were the development of SAIMA in a technological and organized way. These ideas that originated from an external environment, and corresponded to the needs of the market itself: the new security booths with metal detectors demonstrated an optimal product that responded to the request and urgency of the Italian market." The differentiation of products even diversified the company: SAIMAMECCANICA for the auto-body sector and SAIMASICUREZZA for the banking sector. "With three productive sectors this diversified, we achieved optimal results very quickly. There were also coincidences for great opportunities in the market, for example, the liberalization of the banking counters on the part of the Bank of Italy. In 1988 and 1989, the productive response and the sales were very notable for SAIMASICUREZZA, who found themselves the first and absolute leader in the supply of ontrolled access for banks. In 1988 SAIMAAGRICOLA was conceded to its commercial director.
