Sale College
Sale College provides support for students identified by the college and the Department of Education and Training as requiring further support to progress at school. This can be due to a range of medical conditions, significant hearing or visual impairments, or any other factor that may affect the way a student understands or expresses information given to them. The program aims to improve the appropriate learning environment and learning outcomes for students with special needs and to provide and maintain a whole school approach to address the specific need of the student. In addition the program has the aim of establishing a long term support person for a student with special needs. Program teachers and support staff work closely with families and students to assist the student in developing ways of managing school work load and other problems encountered while at school. Support can be in the form of additional staff assistance, course modification, or equipment required for the special need. Changes can on occasion be made to the physical school environment. The special needs program also assists students with personal and emotional support through contacts with the Wellington Schools Network counsellors. Students are assisted in developing networks for successful transition through school and into the workforce, working closely with Sale College pathways and training programs, the Department of Human Services, Centrelink and regional employment and training providers.
