Sharpe Farm Supplies
Sharpe Farm Supplies was founded in 1986 by Bill and Marion Sharpe. The main office, fertilizer tower, and grain elevator were constructed on the Sharpe family farm, located on the north side of Guelph. Sharpe's original goal was to meet the crop input needs of area farmers by supplying them with fertilizer, herbicides and seed. It wasn't long before custom application of fertilizer and herbicides were added to Sharpe's growing list of services to allow their products to be applied in a timely and precise manner. Sharpe's have always been an early adopter of technology, such as offering the area's first air-flow machine for accurate fertilizer application, and the area's first high clearance row crop sprayer for minimal in crop spraying damage. In the early 90's Sharpe's began to expand the capacity of their grain elevator. Sharpe's had been drying and storing grains for their own farm since the early 70's, but saw a need to provide these services to their customers as they expanded their operations. Larger and faster unloading pits were installed and a new dryer was erected to provide the growers with faster turnaround so they could spend their time in the field harvesting their crops, and not in lines waiting to unload their trucks and wagons. As well, Sharpe began to offer new grain programs to area farmers including non-GMO soybeans in 2000 and Food Grade soybeans in 2007. These programs allowed area farmers to be paid a premium for providing a value added product to the marketplace.
