The Shoalhaven Youth Orchestra was established in 2000 as an orchestra of string and woodwind players from many different parts of the Shoalhaven. Performance highlights of the Shoalhaven Youth Orchestra include Saint-Saëns' "The Carnival of the Animals" with narration by Richard Morecroft (former ABC presenter, who is now a Shoalhaven resident), the performance of "A River Runs Across the Page", written for the orchestra by Vivienne Olive, the 2004 Composer in Residence at Arthur Boyd's Bundanon, and a concert to an audience of over three thousand people at Coolangatta Estate Winery with contemporary musician, Paul Greene. A significant number of Shoalhaven Youth Orchestra Alumni have gone on to study music at tertiary level and take up careers as music teachers or performers, including our current Musical Director, Jacob Antonio, who was a foundation member of Shoalhaven Youth Orchestra in 2000. Shoalhaven Youth Orchestra rehearses on Tuesdays during school terms at Nowra School of Arts from 4.45-6.30 pm.
