Sikiarideio Foundation

It was established in 1939 by the family of Vasilios Sikiaridis and although initially it operated as an orphanage and preventorium, in 1971 it took on its present form and structure. It is a non-profit legal entity under private law, supervised by the Ministry of Labor, Social Protection & Welfare. It is financed by the Hellenic Public Sector as well as from private donors. Various social security plans also contribute funds. The Foundation is located in Marousi on a privately owned lot of 18 acres which houses the administration offices, the various workshops including gardening and the greenhouse as well as athletic facilities. It provides transportation and catering services to the enrollees. On its premises, the Foundation hosts the 1st Public Special Elementary School as well as the Public Special Nursery School. The Sikiarideio Foundation is a Model Center for Psychology students of the Panteion and Kapodistrian Universities of Athens, students of Social Work and Speech Therapy of Technological Educational Institutes and private institutions as well as students from Public and Private Vocational Training Centers. In its scope of social awareness and the social interaction of its enrollees, the Sikiarideio Foundation welcomes and offers guided tours of its facilities to visiting schools or groups of individuals who wish to become more familiar with the services it provides to youngsters with learning disabilities.
