Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering (SJCE) has an impressive history of growth & development and contribution to society. Sri Suttur Math a traditional socio-religious organization more than 1050 years old has been involved in traditional education in India for a long time. More that 60 years ago, the organization decided to start formal education system under JSS Mahavidyapeetha to cater to formal education with the motto of Education for all. The main emphasis in the early period was in the rural sector where a large number of schools were started. However, the founder President of MVP His Holiness Dr.Jagadguru Sri Sri. Rajendra Mahaswami had a vision of expanding the service of education to its full potential under MVP. Hence the vertical growth was envisaged and higher education institutions in different areas were started, starting with Science and Commerce Institution. SJCE was founded in the year 1963. With continued effort it grew into one of the top most Technical Institutions in the country within a short period of 10-15 years. Today, MVP has more than 300 institutions, and technical education division with SJCE as its flagship institution, has grown into as a very good example of technical education with the motto of "commitment to technical education". SJCE has pioneered a good number of new programmes relevant to the country's growth during 1970 and 1980 period namely, Instrumentation Technology, Masters in Engineering Management, Bio-Technology, Polymer Science & Technology etc. SJCE has created a network of relationship within and outside the country with a large number of Technical Institutions in US, UK, France, Russia, Malaysia etc. This brought in exchange of students, joint research, exchange of faculty which help in the growth of institution into a centre of excellence. A unique feature of SJCE is that it becomes the focal point for further growth. Our outreach programmes consist of entrepreneurship development through Science & Technology Entrepreneurs Park, an organization for consultancy in which the institution involved in design of training for the entire Karnataka under World Bank scheme. SJCE has also been responsible to take education to the levels of polytechnics, Industrial Training Institutes and outreach skill training programmes through RUDSETI etc. Each polytechnic has different concept - one of them is having CO-OP scheme - working closely with the industry, other one is a polytechnic for differently abled, only on of this kind in the country and the other is polytechnic for women, started at a time when professional education was not easily accessible to women. In order to consider our efforts in different areas of Science, Commerce, law, Medical, Pharmacy etc., we have now got a research centre called JSS Research Foundation.
