SOS Children's Villages Benin
We act as an independent non-governmental social development organization. We respect all religious belief and culture; we work in communities where our mission can contribute to development. We work in accordance with the UN Convention for the Rights of the Child and we promote these rights throughout the Republic of Benin. The first SOS children's village was established in Abomey-Calavi in 1987. In 1999, a second SOS Children's Village was opened in Natitingou; and the third SOS Children's Village was founded in Dassa-Zoumé in 2005. SOS Children's Villages Benin is member of the SOS Children's Villages International federation, which coordinates the work of SOS Children's Village programmes in 133 countries and territories worldwide. It is important to recall that the first SOS Children's Village was founded by Hermann Gmeiner in 1949 in Imst, Austria. He was committed to helping children in need - children who had lost their homes, their security and their families as a result of the Second World War. NEWSLETTER SIGN UP
