SWN Stadtwerke Neumunster

SWN Stadtwerke Neumünster GmbH is a green energy service provider located at the heart of Schleswig-Holstein and is one of the largest employers in the city with 560 employees. The company supplies its customers with electricity, gas, heating, water and has continually expanded its telecommunications business unit since 2009. Since then, it has become the largest supplier (in terms of area) of high-speed internet in Schleswig-Holstein with over 12,000 customers and a fiber-optic network serving Neumünster and the adjacent districts of Bad Segeberg, Rendsburg-Eckernförde, Plön and Steinburg. With its thermal power plant, the TEV thermal waste-to-energy plant, SWN generates about one third of the electricity consumed in the region and supplies a large proportion of the Neumünster households with heat. In its mechanical-biological treatment plant, SWN produces fuel for the power plant on the basis of a ground-breaking concept for waste treatment. SWN received the "Environmentally-friendly Business" award for the concept. As a completely municipal company belonging to the City of Neumünster, the company also operates the "Bad am Stadtwald" spa with roughly 450,000 annual visitors as well as local public transportation with about 2.7 million passengers a year.
