Stanley, Reuter, Ross, Thornton & Alford, L.L.C. was founded in 1997 by two partners from a prestigious New Orleans law firm. The firm's original philosophy, which it has followed throughout its 20 year history, focused upon attracting an elite group of high-achieving lawyers with the motivation necessary to assist clients in a wide range of challenging practice areas. The firm's client base and scope of practice, therefore, consistently have resembled those found in the larger firms in the community and reflected the diverse interests and abilities of the firm's members. The members also have great depth and varieties of other law-related experience, including teaching at law schools, participating in law reform activities, and leading bar committees associated with their practice areas. Over the course of its history, the firm has chosen to grow slowly, and concentrate upon achieving the right mix of lawyers with the unique talents to serve its client base rather than growing simply for the sake of growth. The firm regularly partners with national law firms to represent clients in very significant matters, sometimes referred to as a "virtual law firm" model, while at the same time retaining the flexibility to pursue local and regional representations as lead counsel throughout Louisiana and the Gulf south region.
