St. James Infirmary
We have built a new modern hospital in San Felipe, Mexico with our retirement money. On this web site, you'll find useful information about our facilities, programs and services. We would like to make our hospital services available to those in the USA and Mexico that do not have health insurance. Our fees are much lower here than in the US and we have a CAT SCAN, Mammogram sonogram, operating room and practice the world class of medicine as described on iMedicine or eMedicine I plan on listing some prices and a few pictures on this web site so that you will understand we are in fact, a is not a business oriented hospital hospital. Caroline Thorsen a Family Nurse practitioner (RNFNPC) is the hospital administrator and I am her husband, Lowell M. Somers, MD. The hospital, Saint James Infirmary (SJI), is modeled after Saint Francis or Saint Joseph where I interned or any district hospital. It is not like some of the newer business type hospitals, such as Tenant Hospital, But like all the other hospital the SJI needs fees to operate. The equipment here is paid for and the labor is somewhat less, however the Mexican standards for a licensed hospital are high. The more business we have the lower our fees will go but the quality will never do anything but get better. Our profit and loss statements statement are available for your review. Ours must balance out at zero and there is no financial gain by anyone on the board or the Founders. Actually we are quite a bit below zero. Our prices are the fees for Medicare of Puerto Rico, which are the lowest in the US and almost exactly the cost of good private care in Mexicali. My funds went into construction start up and equipment. We are now totally dependent on patient fees for our services to remain in operation. Look at our fee schedule; 25 dollars for a chest X-ray, 250 dollars for a CAT scan of the head, and our room rate is 150 dollars a day. We have been billing Medicare supplements and getting paid. Medicare has to refuse first. Make sure your supplement covers you in a foreign country for 60 continuous days, and a trip to Calexico for anything? The more business we have the lower our fees and that is the law. Our new hospital is well equipped. Take a look at the pictures of our facility we have posted here. This is not a quack cancer clinic or non-accepted medicine. San Felipe is 2 1/2 hrs from the nearest hospital. We have blood lab, qualified trauma surgeons, and orthopedic surgeons. It is also for the uninsured that need an operation or special study and cannot afford it in the USA. The reason we've created the San Felipe Hospital is a calling to help those in need of healing. Our mission is to enhance the health and well being of the area we serve through excellence, compassion and respect for every person. Healing takes faith, compassion, and skill, backed by the finest technology. And because we are more than simply sinew connecting muscle to bone, veins pumping blood to our hearts, true healing involves more than our bodies. True healing tends to our spirit and soul as well. True healing takes people. At the Saint James Infirmary individuals perform extraordinary acts of healing every day.
