St. Michael's Abbey

St. Michael's Summer Camp "Where All Boys Have Fun!"® exists to bring young souls closer to Jesus Christ. Our primary goal is to promote an increase in the virtues of faith, hope, and charity, which should be present in the souls of the young boys whom God has entrusted to our care. The camp experience also seeks to strengthen the camper's respect for parental and civil authority, as well as provide a Christian setting in which the boys can have fun participating in activities and associating with others of their age group. St. Michael's Summer Camp is an adventure-filled Catholic camp for boys ages 7-12. Located on our beautiful abbey property in Silverado, California, St. Michael's really is "Where All Boys Have Fun!"® Our overnight camp has been in operation since 1962, and it is accredited by the American Camping Association. Each session lasts one week, from Sunday afternoon to the following Saturday afternoon. We offer five camp sessions every summer, beginning in early July and concluding in early August. The priests and seminarians of St. Michael's Abbey act as the camp directors, counselors, and staff. Together, we provide the boys with good, clean fun in a safe, Catholic environment. We also instruct the campers in the faith and provide the sacraments throughout the week. Every day we have Mass, rosary, and catechism with the boys. Each week, we offer Confession (with instruction beforehand), benediction of the Blessed Sacrament, and an opportunity to be trained as an altar server. All campers are divided into councils of 6-8 boys, under the care of a seminarian councilor. The campers are supervised at all times. Even at night, two staff members are present in every dorm-whether a bunkroom in our high school, or, for campouts, a large military tent on our stations-of-the-cross hill. Camp activities are countless, and no two days are exactly alike. But a typical day at St. Michael's Summer Camp would go something like this: 6:30 a.m.- Wake Up 7:00 a.m.- Holy Mass 7:45 a.m.- Flag Salute & Morning Exercises 8:00 a.m.- Breakfast 8:45 a.m.- Bunk Inspection 9:00 a.m.- Soccer 10:00 a.m.- Kick the Can 11:00 a.m.- Swimming (Red Cross-certified swimming lessons included) 12:00 p.m.- Lunch 12:30 p.m.- Rest Lodge 2:00 p.m.- Baseball 3:00 p.m.- Hiking 4:00 p.m.- Nationball (a camp favorite) 4:45 p.m.- Rosary 5:30 p.m.- Dinner 6:00 p.m.- Catechism 7:00 p.m.- Stink Bug Hunt & Race 8:00 p.m.- Campfire! 9:30 p.m.- Bedtime At St. Michael's, campers play hard and pray hard!
