STF is a principles-based organisation, founded on high standards of honesty, sincerity and hard work. We firmly believe: Every person has a right to information and ideas The family is the fundamental unit of society and all children should be loved and cared for Every person has dignity and self-worth Several values relate to STF as an organisation: We value the knowledge of others and seek to constantly learn and improve; our work is influenced by discourses such as narrative journalism and appreciative inquiry/positive deviance and educationalists such as Paulo Freire Confidentiality, teamwork, quality performance, steadfastness and creativity are Plurality and diversity not just in our communities, but also in our outreach and our approach; we do not believe there is only ever one solution to a problem or one correct way of dealing with issues Paulo Freire is the founder of communication for social change; his ideas for dialogue and problem-solving based education permeate the work of Straight Talk Foundation Students reading ST newspapers Our staff The STF head office is based in Kampala where there is a team of 75 across all core functions including print, design, radio, outreach, HR and Finance. The radio team is our largest comprising 30 journalists and technicians in 2011. Our regional staff are comprised of counsellors, social workers, journalists and foresters and we have teams based in the Youth Centres in Gulu, Kitgum,Adjumani, Amuru and Moroto. We also employ a team of 20 at head office for our Tree Talk initiative. As of 2011, STF employed 137 full-time staff and also had 10 volunteers working with us.
