He began his veterinary career in Gainesville, FL. After 10 years of small animal practice, he decided to move closer to his hometown and start his own practice. Stuart Sound Animal Hospital opened its doors in 1997 and has been providing quality veterinary care ever since. Stuart Sound Animal Hospital originally started out as a single doctor practice with two employees, and has grown steadily over the years. Dr. David Carlson began working part time in 2003, and Dr. Myles Rowley joined the family as a full time associate in 2012. We are now a fully staffed hospital with a compassionate veterinary care team consisting of two full time veterinarians, one part time veterinarian, and eight full time employees. As the practice continued to grow, it was apparent that it would soon outgrow the previous facility. Dr. Steers began planning his own free-standing building which was completed in July 2013. Stuart Sound Animal Hospital is very proud of the new, state of the art facility and all of its advancements such as digital radiology, digital dental radiology, ultrasonography, computerized records, and the ability to run almost all diagnostic tests "in house". The hospital also houses one of the only positive pressure ventilated operating rooms on the Treasure Coast in order to provide the safest surgical environment possible.
