Dearborn Speech and Sensory Center

Since its founding, DSSC Inc. has experienced steady growth by providing physical therapy, occupational therapy and psychological/social work services in addition to speech therapy. In 2002, Shaffer added occupational therapist services, to develop a summer group therapy program for 55 children who needed speech therapy and sensory integration therapy. "Team Speech and Sensory Summer Camp" has been an outstanding success and continues to be offered each year through two summer sessions. In 2003, we celebrated the opening of our first facility located at 23936 Michigan Avenue in Dearborn, Michigan. The facility housed a 1,400 sq. ft. sensory gymnasium, speech therapy rooms and a room for handwriting. Soon after the opening of our Center, DSSC Inc. quickly expanded to provide therapists and therapy services to several schools systems within Michigan. Because of the rapidly growing demand for therapists, Shaffer launched Therapy Solutions Unlimited in 2005, to help recruit and place therapists. Today, we have many therapists offering private therapy sessions and servicing home health agencies, public schools and public school academies throughout Michigan. Since DSSC Inc.'s inception, our charter is to provide the highest quality speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy and psychological services for individuals from infancy through adulthood. Our team of therapists assists clients in areas of speech, handwriting, central nervous system alignment (sensory integration therapy), feeding, fine and gross motor coordination, and social skills. Our professionals also provide tutoring services and ABA therapy services to children who are on the autism spectrum. Programs offered at DSSC Inc. include Handwriting without Tears®; Interactive Metronome®, a computer-based program to improve motor control and cognition; Fast ForWord®, a computer-based speech language therapy program; and Brain Gym®. Individuals with developmental delay, apraxia of speech, autism spectrum disorders, attention deficit disorder or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder are just a few of the clients who benefit from our therapy services. We are providers of BCBS, Priority Health and various other private insurances. We are also involved with the Medicaid Waiver program in Macomb and Oakland Counties. Locations
