SUDANO'S PRODUCE
The company was originated in the year 1920 when Sebastiano Sudano immigrated from Sicily, Italy to The United States of America. He arrived with determination and a dream. His dream began by marrying Giacamina Impallaria, another Italian immigrant with the same dreams. They procreated ten children. As they started to build a family, he needed to find a way to support them facing the challenges of the Great Depression in the 1930's. Sebastiano did what he knew best, selling fruits and vegetables from door to door with a horse and wagon. He was called a huckster. He would go around the streets of Baltimore City from sun up to sun down to peddle all of his produce. In addition to door to door sales, he had the support from the local restaurants within his neighborhood of Little Italy. As his children grew up, they joined him in the family business. This allowed them to expand the business to other parts of Baltimore. After Sebastiano's death in the 1950's, his two sons, Benjamin Sudano and Joseph Sudano took over the business and started Sudano Brothers Produce Co. The company specialized in bananas, wine grapes among other fruits and vegetables. As the years went by, the business changed, and new families were made. Benjamin Sudano had a son named Benjamin Paul Sudano, Jr. and Joseph Sudano had Joseph Robert Sudano. Eventually, the first Partnership went their separate ways. Ironically, in 2003, their two sons, also known as Ben Sudano and Bob Sudano, joined together and opened what today is Sudano's Produce LLC. The company started purchasing product from all growing regions, and as they began to grow more and more, they were servicing a variety of customers, such as retail stores, restaurants, institutions, and schools. Due to their growing success, they decided to buy a farm on the Eastern Shore that grows watermelon, corn, cantaloupe, and kale to better serve their customers. Bob Sudano is now retired and is enjoying Florida. However, Sudano's Produce LLC continues going strong by Ben Sudano and a great team of employees, who have their heart and soul into the business. With the help from the team, the company has widened the distribution of customers through South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Washington DC, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, and Delaware. Today, Sudano's Produce has two locations available to their customers, one in Jessup, MD and the largest location in Rheems, PA with a 90,000 square foot warehouse, which is temperature-controlled throughout with compliant refrigeration as required by Primus (a Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) benchmarked and fully recognized audit scheme covering both GAP and GMP scopes as well as Food Safety Management Systems). This allows our products to be monitored from farm to fork with traceability from seeding to planting, harvesting, and shipping. Our prime objective is to conscientiously deliver clean, safe, and affordable products from start to finish. Our variety of products include all fruits, vegetables, dairy, and seasonal items, such as wine grapes, etc., and can range from organic to conventional items. Products can be packaged and delivered fresh within 24 hours by our identifiable fleet of 20 trucks and vans. The Sudano Family story continues, in 2015 Ben and his wife Yosselin welcomed their baby girl named Yossita, who is already showing her business talent.
