Sunco Carriers is a refrigerated transportation company and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Watkins Associated Industries (WAI). WAI is a privately owned holding company whose diversified interests include transportation, real estate, construction, citrus, insurance, and food processing. Sunco was founded in 1981 and acquired by WAI in 1997. Other WAI transportation affiliates include Highway Transport . Sunco's driver recruiting and training facility is found at the corporate offices in Lakeland, FL. Sales offices are located in Florida, Georgia, Illinois, New York, and Texas. The Operations Department maintains centralized control of driver operations on a 24-hour basis. This department is also located in Lakeland, FL and is accessible 7 days a week. Sunco has focused on markets and industry segments where protection of perishable goods and on-time service are the primary decision criteria for carriers. These industry groups include perishable consumables, i.e. beverages and citrus juices, personal care products, frozen foods, pharmaceuticals, and produce. We serve the "Just In Time" needs of our customers with a fleet powered primarily by owner operator drivers.
