Sustainable Carbon

Sustainable Carbon was founded after over 10 years of extensive research on sustainability and climate change in the heart of the Amazonian rainforest. It started off by convincing local ceramic owners to switch their fuel source from native timber to renewable, locally-available biomass. The major thought behind this undertaking was to use the growing carbon market to finance the necessary costs associated with changing to a more sustainable production method. After a lot of hard work and lessons learned, the first carbon credits were issued in 2008. Using the revenues from the sale of these credits, the entrepreneurs were not only able to finance the technology which allowed them to generate the credits, but also to invest in socioeconomic goals outlined in the framework that the SOCIALCARBON® Standard provides. In 2009 and 2010 we not only significantly increased the number of projects, but also managed to establish projects within most of Brazil's ecosystems, doing our best to cover most of Brazil's flora and fauna. Over the last years Sustainable Carbon has committed itself to exclusively deliver high quality carbon offsets. After gaining invaluable experience in the sector using VCS + SOCIALCARBON, we are now validating our first Gold Standard projects at the end of 2011. From these humble beginnings, Sustainable Carbon has become one of the most recognized carbon project developers in the world. We are the number one supplier of SOCIALCARBON credits in the world. Together with our partners we have successfully validated over 40 projects set to reduce more than 10 million tons of carbon dioxide; and through o date, we have sold over 2.5 million credits, bringing millions of dollars to communities of the frontlines of climate change.
