Sweaney Inc. is a non union shop that decided not to join the local carpenters union, in doing so we became a target for their banners & strongarm tactics. While they offer a higher less competitive wage rate, their labor agreement also has several ways to funnel money back to the big corporate office for spending that is unsupervised, this inflates a man's hourly rate by about 25%. They cannot deliver on the jobs promised unless everyone gets on board, so if you don't sign up for their idea of brotherhood they call it a labor dispute. This strategy sometimes works in bigger cities than Bakersfield(LA, San Diego, Sacramento, etc.) unfortunately our local economy is not strong enough to afford the big union labor raquet at this time. Competitive pricing is the only way to get awarded contracts so our people stay working & feeding their families. The union claims because we do not meet their inflated labor standards(including the slush fund amounts), we are paying less than what is fair. The only person we aren't paying is them. The modern union is not about improving conditions for the working man anymore, they are about lining their pockets under the guise of supporting the working man. The secret you are not supposed to see is the additional $$$ goes to the big union office under the heading of benefits & fees(not paid to the worker). We value our employees at Sweaney Inc., we pay them competitive wage rates as set by California labor laws & local market averages. We've been a part of the local construction economy for 20 years without any labor complaints & we are looking forward to participating in the growth of the Kern County area for years to come, so if someone from the union has told you we are going out of business, do not believe it! These banners are a smoke screen that hides the union's real intentions($$$), please don't be fooled by them!
