Symondsbury Estate
Symondsbury Estate in Dorset has been in the Colfox family for 150 years, prior to this the family were merchants in nearby Bridport from the thirteenth to the nineteenth centuries and their land was spread throughout the Bridport area. A decision to consolidate their land around Symondsbury occurred due to its superior soil and natural beauty, this is what makes up Symondsbury Estate today. Its 1500 acres is made up of farmland, ancient woodland, residential and commercial property. In addition to this we have hand picked 8 properties and renovated them to provide luxurious holiday cottages for our guests. Most recently we have opened the newly renovated Symondsbury Kitchen at Manor Yard in the centre of the village. The village of Symondsbury has a good C16th pub, The Ilchester Arms and a popular primary school which has been running since 1868. The pretty church of St. John the Baptist is also worth a visit. Many of the cottages were built with the yellow stone from a now disused quarry at the top of Sloes Hill just above the pub.
