TAL Group

The TAL Group operates the Transalpine Pipeline which connects the Port of Trieste with a number of Central European countries, helping them to meet their energy needs by ensuring the sustainable delivery of crude oil to refineries in Austria, Germany and the Czech Republic. The shareholders of the TAL Group include some of the major names in the global oil sector: OMV, Shell, Ruhr Oel, ENI, C-Blue Limited (Gunvor), BP, Exxon Mobil, Mero, Phillips 66/Jet Tankstellen and Total. The energy supply role played by the TAL Group across the past forty-five years has been of central importance for the European economy: the oil transported through the Transalpine Pipeline covers 40% of Germany (100% of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg) as well as 90% of Austria and more than 30% of Czech Republic needs. From Trieste, the TAL Pipeline runs through the Italian region of Friuli Venezia Giulia before crossing the Alps and continuing its journey across Austria to Ingolstadt in Germany where it divides in two, ending in the west near Karlsruhe and in the east near Neustadt, giving a total length of 753 km. The pipeline is connected to other similar systems: in Austria it supplies the refinery in Schwechat near Vienna through the AWP Pipeline (Adria Wien Pipeline), while a second branch in Germany supplies the Czech refineries of Kralupy and Litvinov, to the north of Prague. As the operator of one of the most important pipeline systems in Europe, the TAL Group is fully aware not only of the strategic role that it plays in the European economy but also of the importance of safety. In order to meet the highest technological standards it invests large sums in innovation and in the modernisation of its facilities. Ever since its establishment, the TAL Group has focused its efforts on maintaining competitiveness while implementing strict safety measures as a means of combining economic growth with social responsibility, environmental protection and the conservation of the natural heritage of the surrounding areas. It operates in the interest of local populations and in collaboration with the authorities.
