We offer an incredibly flexible working environment with adaptable working hours which gives our staff the ability to work from anywhere across New Zealand. We currently have more than 20 course facilitators and several full time and part time employees working all across New Zealand. Our Chief Executive Pamela Simpson says modern work environments must shift their thinking in order to attract and retain qualified employees. "It's not just about staff satisfaction - it's about getting the best person for the job regardless of where they live, their family commitments or their ability to work full or part time. It is about empowering the right person to be able to achieve brilliant things no matter where they live. Our head office is in Christchurch but we employ people who live in the North Island, we have parents with young children working for us part time, people with multiple commitments and those with more than one job. "Just like our online students, our employees choose TANZ eCampus because it's flexible, works in with their lifestyle and offers them balance. As a result, we have a fantastic team who work for us because they are absolutely the right person for the job, not just because they live in the same city as our office. Flexibility can take many forms, it's not just about working from home. Expectations of the modern workforce are changing," says Simpson. Melanie Baynes has been one of our student facilitators for the last 12 months. She is a mother of two small children who says working from home online as a tutor has turned into her dream job. "My work completely fits around my children's needs, I focus on them when they are home and I work while they are asleep or at kindergarten and school. TANZ eCampus is a fantastic example of the modern workplace. It's flexible, we can work anytime that works for us and we can do it from anywhere - all we need is the internet. "It also means I can be there when my students need me. Most of our students are also fitting in study around a busy work or home life. They are online in the weekends and the evenings. I am there for them and will respond even if it is after 5pm or a Sunday. It is the beauty of a flexible, completely online work environment," says Baynes. Dr. Michael Verhaart is another course facilitator for TANZ eCampus who lives 35 minutes from Napier. After more than 35 years working in a traditional education environment, he now works from home, tutoring online. He says that the flexibility of working for TANZ eCampus is what appealed to him most. "I stay at home working as and when I need to. There is no class timetable that I need to stick to. I dive in and out of work, keeping an eye on my students. I do my job and achieve the outcomes, it doesn't matter when or where I do it from. It is refreshing to work in this environment," says Verhaart. What about team culture? We use the same technology to build our team culture that we use to keep our students engaged. This is an important step to making flexible and distance employment work. "Communication is vital to the success of our working environment. We use skype a lot, text, email, social media - all the tools at our disposal to ensure we stay connected to our team. We make ourselves available for our staff at the hours they need us. This means the typical 9am-5pm if not considered in our environment. Our students study at night so our tutors and our advisors need to be available to attend to their needs". Post navigation
