Book People was founded in 1988 by two book enthusiasts, Ted Smart and Seni Glaister, on the principle of making books available and affordable to everyone. We did this by delivering hand-picked favourites direct to people's workplaces, at unbelievable prices. We started out spreading the joy of reading with just one van, visiting offices scattered around the Guildford area. This is where we found our first band of loyal customers. By 1990, there were 140 local booksellers all around the country sporting bright red Book People shirts and visiting every kind of workplace imaginable… from bakeries to banks, schools to hospitals! With increasing demand for our quality books at unbelievable prices, soon our Book People catalogue was born and customers had another convenient way to shop our extensive range. This was shortly followed by our online store in 1998, where customers could buy all of our brilliant books from one easy-to-use website. Our dedicated team of book experts use their vast experience to select our hand-picked favourites and we also have our extensive library of over 100,000 items - where there is something for everyone, from the latest titles to timeless classics. We buy our range in bulk direct from publishers and suppliers, so we get the items you want for less - and we pass the savings on to you every time.
