The Academy of Gymnastics

The Academy of Gymnastics was established in 2002 and is one of the MOST successful performance clubs in Great Britain. Liz Kincaid founded the club and is still heavily involved. The aim of the club was to bring 'gymnastics to North Somerset'. This has certainly been achieved with gymnastics classes from beginners who are toddling to International performers, with plenty of gymnastics classes on offer in between. Liz has carefully selected a team of coaches who work towards The Academy's pledge to ensure that all gymnasts reach their full potential in the sport. The Academy Coaches are educated to the highest standard. They have been screened to ensure that they are suitable to work with children, holding a current DBS and 'Safeguarding Children' course. The club is based in the popular 'Portishead' town, just 8 miles from Bristol on the M5 corridor overlooking the Bristol Channel and Wales beyond. With it's easy access we have gymnasts that come from as far a field as Gloucestershire and Devon. In 2013 The Academy won GOLD at the British Team Championships, becoming the best performance club in the UK. No other club has managed this from the South West region. Since then The Academy has medaled each year. Liz has coached many English and Welsh squad members, consistently earning National Titles year after year. She is very proud to have produced many International gymnasts who have represented Great Britain around the world. This of course includes Imogen Cairns - 2012 London and 2008 Beijing Olympian, Commonwealth Games Triple Gold Medallist, Double World Championship Vault Finalist, and multi British Champion and Ruby Harrold Commonwealth Games Triple Medalist and Triple World and Double European A Bar finalist and in 2015 Ruby was part of the Great Britain Team that for the first time in history brought a bronze team medal home from the World Championships.
