Howard Theatre
Howard Theatre Restoration, Inc. (HTR), is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization, that led the collaborative effort with the District of Columbia and other private entities to bring the life, the music, and the people back to The Howard Theatre. HTR oversaw the reconstruction and cultural development of the Howard Theatre, a National Landmark that is also one of the 500 Treasures in the Save America's Treasures Program. The reconstruction effort was managed by the Ellis Development Group. Architects Martinez & Johnson, recognized leaders in the application of architectural preservation standards and procedures, and interior architect Marshall Moya led the design effort. Construction services were provided by Whiting & Turner. Our Mission is to Preserve, Protect, and Proclaim the legacy and genius of the world's most influential form of cultural expression…the African American Entertainment Experience in the form of Gospel, Jazz, R&B, Hip Hop, and Classical music. Further, it is to ensure the impact on current and future generations by serving the community through integration of arts into Science Technology Engineering and Math at the Howard Theatre. Our vision is that Howard Theatre will be the premier arts and education venue that leverages art for the empowerment of all people.
