The Pointe Academy
Each year at The Pointe, we choose a cause to come together as a family and raise awareness and funds for. We feel an essential part of our dancer's education is learning to use their talents to give back to their communities. Along with fundraising activities, we hold an annual Benefit Concert with our performing companies dedicated to the cause. Our sweetest and most cherished moments as a company have come from these experiences. This year, in light of so many in our own community who have or are suffering from depression, anxiety, stress, suicide, etc we have chosen to partner with The Utah County Crisis Line. If you look around you, everyone knows someone who could benefit from help the Crisis Line offers. We want to truly make a difference, and we feel that together we can! We invite you to join us in our efforts! In the coming months, we will be partnering with the Crisis Center to bring educational workshops into the studio. These will be free of charge and open to anyone in the public. They will be offered on a myriad of subjects, and we feel will be beneficial not only to our immediate Pointe family but to many others in the community. We will also be holding a volunteer education class that you may attend if you would like to get involved. We are excited about all that we can do in partnership with the Crisis Center. As we met with the Crisis Center Director, we were shocked by some of the immediate needs they are without. They are currently located in a room inside the Women's Shelter, and are operating on a simple desk, a few shelves and a couch from the 1970s. All of the workers are volunteers that donate one 3 hour shift a week and an overnight shift every six weeks. They are working with outdated equipment and more. We decided to kick off our cause with a call to action! We have attached a letter from the Director here: Crisis Line Needs. You will find they have a list of many simple items they are in need of. We love for our dancers to be involved and feel that many of the items on this list could be easy for a dancer to raise money and purchase to donate his/herself. Even a box of granola bars would be so appreciated by the volunteers. If you and your family are interested in donating a larger item from the list, please contact us and we can arrange for that. Small items can be dropped off at the studio any day during business hours. If you would like to leave a card of appreciation to the volunteers, that would be fun too. Straight financial donations are welcome as well. The Crisis Line is a United Way Organization and donation receipts for tax purposes are available. If reading the list sparks a great idea, let us know! In the past, young women, scouts, business and school groups have joined us.
