Suburban Players
The Suburban Players is the longest running English-speaking amateur theatrical club in Argentina, having been around since April 1963. Originally founded by a group of American expatriates, our objective, then and now, is to stage plays in English for the enjoyment of all those involved whilst simultaneously providing quality entertainment for the community. We are a non-profit organization that collaborates on a regular basis with established charities, helping community oriented fund raising campaigns with our proceeds. The club is also a friendly and relaxed space in which English speakers (and learners) can interact. There are various social events during the year such as parties, talent shows, barbecues, play-readings, costume parties, sing-songs, etc. These events are open to members and friends. During these first 49 years we have produced well over 100 shows, including dramas, comedies, farces, musicals and thrillers both at our own premises and at other theatres in Buenos Aires. We have also taken plays on tour to reach audiences that find it difficult to come to Buenos Aires. The Suburban Players has staged plays from the leading names in drama from Shakespeare to Shaw, from Pinter to Chekhov, including the texts prescribed by Cambridge on its official reading list, thus affording English learners a chance to actually see and hear what their "books" sound like.
