The Tank

The Tank has been serving emerging artists for 8 years. The non-profit home for performing arts marked it's 8th birthday by losing its home. After 2 ½ years and with rent being doubled, The Tank has vacated the 45th Street Theater. Fortunately, there is something to toast for this anniversary: The Tank has partnered with other non-profit theaters to ensure summer programming would continue uninterrupted. In June, The Tank partnered with the Michael Chekov Theater Company (http://www.chekhovtheatre.com/) to use the studio space at 354 West 45th Street as well as 319 Scholes in Brooklyn to host the 8th annual Bent Festival. In July and August, Tank programming will find a home with Tada! (http://www.tadatheater.com/), a well-loved children's theater north of Madison Square Park. In tough economic times, many arts venues are forced to close. These partnerships ensure that The Tank will continue a dynamic schedule of theater, dance, puppetry, comedy, film, music and public affairs, and will continue its tradition of supporting artists, presenting affordable, accessible work, and serving as a hub of community discussions. To ensure a smooth move, The Tank is currently raising $20,000 to pay partial rent, cover moving costs, storage, and office space. The money that comes in now secures Tank space for the summer and guarantees artists that their work will be seen.
