We were established in 1999. The founders, including Managing Director, Mike Johnstone, had spent many years in financial services marketing when they identified that many companies had a need for ongoing cost-effective marketing services. Financial services firms were typically small with fewer than ten employees (they still are) and they couldn't justify, or didn't want, their own marketing department. They did, however, need ongoing marketing support at a reasonable price, provided by people who knew the industry. Larger firms too preferred to work with people who understood financial services, however they tended to need marketing support on a more ad hoc basis or needed specialist knowledge to help cope with specific projects, such as website design. Fifteen years later, the need for cost-effective marketing hasn't changed. What has changed is the way those needs are met. Many businesses - small and large - have benefited, and continue to benefit, from using the services of The Outsourced Marketing Department. However, today, whilst financial services remains a key market for us, we now have experience of, and work across, many other sectors in particular legal services and the accountancy sector. In January 2010 we merged with The Insurance Marketing Department which was founded by Stephen Phillips, a highly respected authority on Life and General Insurance marketing for over 40 years. Stephen created and developed the popular Economic Review and other investment and economic commentary that The Outsourced Marketing Department still produces regularly for financial services firms and their clients.
