TorIX
The TorIX owns and operates the switching platforms used to interconnect the various members. The switching platforms are a series of Cisco Nexus 7000 Ethernet switches capable of handling ample amounts of traffic. These switches are located in diverse areas throughout the building. This infrastructure enables members to select the location closest to their point of presence. Alternatively, members may choose to take advantage of the redundant infrastructure by running a connection to 2 or more switching sites. The TorIX is not a single connection point, but rather many. Once you have connected, you will have the ability to peer with any number of peers over any routing protocol you wish. Please keep in mind that BGP4 and portable address space are ideal, but by no means required in order to setup a peering arrangement with anyone connected to the switch. Individual members may mandate a certain protocol and/or minimum connection size, however to connect to TorIX and utilize it's services, you are free to choose. The TorIX is a layer 2 service. No routing facilities exist. The routing or forwarding of packets is performed by the individual member routers.
