Treeton School

Treeton has been the pioneer of many inventions which have since come into every day use. Treeton was the first village in England to get electric street lighting. This was made possible by the wealthy J. F. Jones, the Managing Director of Rothervale Collieries Ltd. He used his company's power to literally shed light on the village - making Treeton the envy of every small settlement. It is on record that some of the first experiments with the Electric Telegraph System were carried out in Treeton by Sir Fothergill Cooke by whom messages were passed from one room to another.
