The Media Center, which has a state-of-the-art library system, also houses WTHS, the school's television station. Students score above the national average on the ACT and compete regularly in district and state competitions in performing arts, athletics and music. THS is one of only 24 public schools in the nation to be awarded the Cum Laude Society Chapter. In 2010, Tupelo High was also the first Mississippi Public School to implement the 1:1 Apple Laptop Initiative. The Wall Street Journal called Tupelo "the best small town in the South". It is the upholstered furniture capital of the world and home to 43 Fortune 500 and/or international companies. The North Mississippi Medical Center is the largest nonmetropolitan hospital in the nation.
