Uganda Electricity Generation
Uganda Electricity Generation Company Limited (UEGCL) is a public limited liability company that was incorporated on the 26th March and started operations on the 1st of April of 2001. The Ugandan Government implemented a Power Sector Reform and Privatization Policy, which resulted in the separation of Uganda Electricity Board (UEB) into Generation, Transmission and Distribution successor companies. In November of 2002, UEGCL signed a Concession and Assignment Agreement with Eskom Uganda Limited and on 1st April 2003, UEGCL handed over the electricity generation complex of Nalubaale 200MW and KIIRA 180MW to Eskom Uganda Limited (EUL) under a 20 year concession. Eskom took over the operation and maintenance of the electricity generation complex, with ownership of the asset remaining with UEGCL.
